Ghosts arrested after hotel room is trashed

The hotly-tipped band get into trouble

New band Ghosts and five of their crew have been arrested in York this week after a city centre hotel room was trashed.

Local media are reporting that the band were arrested by police at the Hotel Ibis in the Mount on Thursday morning (February 22) on suspicion of causing criminal damage.

The band stayed at the hotel after appearing at the Fibbers venue on Wednesday night.

During the night complaints about noise started to reach the night porter and when he went to investigate he found water all over the floor of the room and moved two men staying there to another room.

But in the morning it was discovered a handle had been pulled off a toilet, and carpets and furniture were damaged. In addition, drink was said to have been taken from behind the bar along with food from the kitchens.

A guest at the hotel, who did not want to be named, said he had been told the room will have to be completely gutted and all the carpets and furniture replaced.

He said the police were called and at around 8.30am two riot vans, a prison van and eight uniformed police officers turned up and went to the band’s hotel rooms.

Ghosts were woken and arrested in their beds on suspicion of causing criminal damage.

“I’ve been told the room was trashed,” the guest said. “The toilet handle was ripped out and it completely flooded the room. Police were called and they were arrested in their beds.”

Tim Hornsby, the manager of Fibbers, where Ghosts had played, said the band had been very popular and were booked to make a re-appearance at the club in April.

Ghosts are going to be very, very big,” he said. “They went down a storm, they are going to be very big indeed.”

Ghosts were held in the cells at Fulford Road police station yesterday.

A police spokesman confirmed that nine people were arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage at the Hotel Ibis at 8.30am yesterday. He said the damage will run into hundreds of pounds.

Ghosts were due to play the Barfly in Glasgow tonight. A spokesman for the club said the appearance had been cancelled.

Sergeant Keith Morrison, of York Police, said two of those arrested had been dealt with by fixed penalty notices.
