Glastonbury Festival 2016: Block9 line-up announced including Hot Chip’s Prince tribute

The festival runs this year from 22-26 June

The line-up for this year’s Block9 area at Glastonbury has been announced.

Glastonbury Festival 2016 runs at its traditional home of Worthy Farm, Pilton in Somerset from 22-26 June, with Muse, Adele and Coldplay headlining.

After announcements for the dance village Silver Hayes and The Common line-up, the line-up for Block9 has now been confirmed. Returning this year, Block9 is described as a “24-hour wonderland of heavyweight sound systems, underground nightclubs, huge artworks and extremely alternative performance”.

The area’s four stages (Genosys, NYC Downlow, London Underground and The Meat Rack) have announced its acts, including Andy Butler of Hercules and Love Affair, Shy FX, Eats Everything, Seth Troxler and more. Hot Chip will also pay tribute to Prince with a special DJ set at Block9.

After ten years on New York’s East 7th Street, rampant gentrification has resulted in eviction of the infamous gay nightclub NYC Downlow, forcing it to relocate across town to the Meatpacking District. The club now shares premises with the notorious West Side Bath House in a fully functioning Meatpacker’s warehouse.

Described as “darker, seedier and moodier”, NYC Downlow will be an “authentic reproduction of a meatpacker’s warehouse circa 1982” and features a second dance room called The Meat Rack, a hidden blackout play space for the more adventurous partygoer, and an army of go go boy butchers. The club will host a David Bowie night on the Saturday night and a sauna party on the Sunday.
