GLASTONBURY organiser MICHAEL EAVIS will pick up his honorary doctorate from the UNIVERSITY OF BATH today (December 13) for his services to the arts.
Eavis, who has been running the festival for 34 years, will be awarded a Doctor Of Arts degree at a ceremony at the city’s Assembly Rooms.
“The award is just fantastic,” he said. “I think I deserve it after slinging about in the mud for 30 years.”
According to BBC News, Eavis added: “I’m quite excited about it really. I’ve planned a speech and I’ve got a few jokes in it to warm everyone up. It really is a great honour.”
As previously reported on NME.COM, a university spokesperson said: “We will be delighted to award Mr Eavis an honorary doctorate. His contribution to the arts, by giving millions of people the chance to see the best of rock music live on stage, has been very important.”
