And the rappers have revealed a new operatic direction...

Goldie Lookin Chain are heading out to Japan for the first time next month – and have revealed their new operatic direction.

The Welsh rappers will play the SonicMania Festival (February 5) at Osaka’s Intex Arena and Tokyo’s Messe Arena (6) on a bill which also features Marilyn Manson and Velvet Revolver.

[a][/a]’s Maggot told NME.COM: “We’re going to Japan which will be interesting because some of us have never experienced jet lag before. What’s going to be great is that we get it worse than most people. It’ll probably take us two days to get there with budget airlines – 14 stop-offs.”

He added: “We’re going to play a festival the day after we get there, we’re going to do another one the day after that, and then we fly home again – it’s going to be a week of jetlag. I heard you don’t need drugs out there – you can’t get them there anyway! I’m just going to take in the colours, the sounds and the smells.”

Though there are no plans as of yet to return to the recording studio to record the follow-up to last year’s ‘Greatest Hits’ debut album, Maggot revealed that the band may start moving in a new direction.

He said: “We’ve got a few new ones that we’re playing with at the moment. We’re trying to move in a bit of an opera direction with ragga because that formula has worked for a lot, a lot of people.”
