New songs, rarities and underpants at London gig
Goldie Lookin Chain celebrated the launch of their new album ‘Safe As Fuck’last night (September 19) with a special one off gig in London.
The Newport rap collective played a 55-minute set at the Scala in King’s Cross which comprised of mainly new tracks, unreleased songs and singles from their debut album.
The sold out gig marked the last headline slot for the band this year, although they will support Super Furry Animals for two dates later this week.
Speaking to NME.COM before the gig, Eggsy said: “We haven’t done a headline show for a while. I’m kind of in that mindset to do it but if I think about it I’ll shit it. It’s like having one big family here tonight. It’s nice people have come along cos they could be watching TV.
“Everybody has been taking to the new songs really well, particularly at the festivals. They’ve all been waving their hands in the air and smiling and you can see them mouthing ‘Stupid fuckers’, but it’s all good. We’re starting to get used to remembering the words from the new album now that we’ve played a few festivals so we should be all right. I’m really happy with the new album cos apart from one or two songs its all mainly new stuff from us.”
The show seemed more like a party than a concert with much of the crowd, dressed in tracksuits and headbands, constantly throwing balloons around the venue and chanting “GLC, GLC“.
During the gig the band also took photos of the audience and someone threw a pair of Y-fronts at Eggsy.
The rap collective performed eight new tracks from their new record, plus there were rare outings for unreleased songs ‘No Joke’ and ‘Mystikal’.
Goldie Lookin Chain played:
‘Bad Boy Limp’
‘Shit To Me’
‘Half Man Half Machine’
‘Your Missus Is A Nutter’
‘Maggot At Midnight’
‘Guns Don’t Kill People, Rappers Do’
‘Your Mother’s Got A Penis’
