Gorillaz’s innovation rewarded

The band pick up the John Peel award at ShockWaves NME Awards 2006

Gorillaz have won the John Peel Award For Musical Innovation at the ShockWaves NME Awards 2006.

Presented by the Peel family tonight (February 23) in honour of the legendary Radio 1 DJ, this award celebrates bands or artists who are doing new or innovate things with music.

Gorillaz collaborator and former Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder was on hand to pick up the award for the animated group. Ryder famously sang on Gorillaz’ Number One single ’DARE’.
