Comedian Ali G hosts the ceremony, which this year takes place in Frankfurt...

GORILLAZ have six nominations for the MTV EUROPE MUSIC AWARDS, which takes place in FRANKFURT on November 8, it was announced this morning (September 25).

Comedian Ali G was also unveiled as the awards host as he launched the event at London’s Mayfair Club.

Ali, dressed in a bling-bling white fur coat, purple hat with a feather and one white glove, told reporters: “MTV is the best channel in the whole world – apart from the Fantasy Channel.”

Brent Hansen, president and chief executive of MTV Networks Europe, said it was decided to push ahead with the awards despite the terrorist attacks in the US.

He commented: “We decided the show will go on. Recent events have made us more determined to go ahead.”

Damon Albarn’s cartoon band Gorillaz lead the nominations with six including Best Group, Best Dance Act, Best New Act, Best Song, Best Video for ‘Clint Eastwood’ and The Web Award – a new award for artist websites voted by fans. Craig David, Limp Bizkit

and U2 each have four nominations.

Craig David will also be performing on the night, along with Depeche Mode, Rammstein and Blink 182, Destiny’s Child, Dido and Janet Jackson.

Confirmed guest presenters include Emma Bunton, Nelly Furtado, Ronan Keating, Kelis,

Heidi Klum, Kylie Minogue, Nina Persson, Gavin Rossdale, Roger Sanchez and Sugababes and Brendan from Wheatus.
