Damon Albarn says he’s ‘loving’ new Gorillaz album and that it ‘should be ready fairly soon’

Fifth record is expected in 2017

Damon Albarn has spoken about the next Gorillaz album in a new interview.

The Blur frontman’s project with visual artist Jamie Hewlett, Gorillaz last released a full-length in 2011 with ‘The Fall’. Their as-yet-untitled fifth record has been tipped to be released in 2017.

Speaking to BBC Radio 6 Music, Albarn confirmed that the duo will reconvene shortly.

“Later in the year we’ll be starting to get the whole Gorillaz thing together,” he said. Albarn went on to say, “I’m loving it and it’s getting there. It should be ready fairly soon.”

Albarn’s bandmate Hewlett recently described the upcoming album as “really fuckin’ special” and said that it “can’t be rushed”.

Speaking of the new album in 2015, Albarn said, “So far, it’s really fast, and it’s got quite a lot of energy. I’ve been stuck on piano, somewhere off Broadway, for years now. I want to go somewhere completely opposite of that.”

In May, rapper Vic Mensa was pictured in the studio with Albarn.
