Damon Albarn: ‘Gorillaz are planning massive UK gigs this summer’ – video

Singer tells NME.COM he will be taking 'Plastic Beach' on the road

Gorillaz are set to play massive UK gigs this summer, Damon Albarn has told NME.COM.

The singer was speaking at last night’s (February 24) Shockwaves NME Awards where Blur picked up the best Live Event award for their London Hyde Park shows last summer.

“At the moment I wouldn’t want to play Glastonbury or something because I’d be setting myself a very high benchmark but we’re definitely going to play some big gigs in the UK or in England or in London this year,” he said. “The band is sounding really good, I’m really excited.”

The Clash‘s Mick Jones later told NME.COM that he and bandmate Paul Simonon would be involved in the band.

Gorillaz release their third album ‘Plastic Beach’ on March 8.

Meanwhile, Albarn admitted that Blur‘s Hyde Park shows represented a unique high point for him.

“If I ever do any gigs like that outside of that moment again I’ll consider myself truly blessed,” he declared. “I’m not saying I don’t aspire to that again, but I would accept it if it never happened again quite like that.”
