Gorillaz’ Murdoc ‘hijacks’ NME Radio to play Horrors, Dead Weather

Plus cartoon frontman promises new band material

Gorillaz frontman Murdoc Niccals has ‘hijacked’ NME.COM/radio this afternoon (January 21) to play records by The Horrors and The Dead Weather.

At around 3pm (GMT) the cartoon creation interrupted the station to broadcast from ‘Plastic Beach’ – also the title of Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett‘s creation’s forthcoming new album.

He introduced the hijacking by saying, “Hello world, I’m back! Back! Live on air! It’s me, Murdoc Niccals. Broadcasting from my brand new stinking palace of sin. This is me, the Gorillaz king.”

He played The Horrors‘s ‘Sea Within A Sea’, The Dead Weather‘s ‘Treat Me Like Your Mother’ and Le Tigre‘s ‘This Island’, then promised to play new Gorillaz songs soon.

“I have got some brand new Gorillaz tracks,” he said. “Get on that. Brand new unreleased Gorillaz. But not yet. I’m going to find the right track to pull out of the stocking.”

To tune in, head to Sky Channel 0184, Virgin Media 975, Freesat 727, DAB nationwide or NME.COM/radio.
