Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci return with a new line-up, new material and a performance in a network of caves near Barcelona in Spain next month.
The September 1 show will be the first time any band has performed inside the Catalonian caverns Esplugues De Llobregat.
The band then play Neuadd Buddug in Bala, Wales, on September 11 and Cheltenham Attic on September 16, both shows acting as warm-up for an appearance at the All Tomorrow’s Parties event at Camber Sands on September 18.
A new single, ‘Spanish Dance Troupe’, is out on September 20 followed by an LP of the same title on October 4, both on Mantra, their new label. Mercury dropped them a year ago, just after the release of last album ‘Gorky 5’.
However, the album will still feature the guitar work of John Lawrence, who decided to leave in July just before it was finished.
Euros Childs, the band’s main songwriter, told NME: “There’s not much to say and I’d feel uncomfortable speaking for John, but I think he just felt it was time to move on. I know it’s always said with things like this, but the whole thing was very amicable.”
They are now rehearsing with old friend Rhodry Pugh, who will be taking Lawrence‘s place for the live dates.
