Gossip singer Beth Ditto has revealed that the band’s new album has been influenced by Abba.
The band are set to release their fifth studio album, titled ‘A Joyful Noise’, on May 14 and in an interview with the Guardian, the singer said she had been listening to the Swedish pop group while recording the new record.
That’s the thing about Abba. There is zero rawness. That’s so incredible to me. I think I’m really infatuated with that right now because that’s not the music I usually listen to. It never caught my attention before.
‘A Joyful Noise’ will be the Gossip’s first album since their 2009 effort ‘Music For Men’. You can hear the first single from the record, ‘Perfect World’, by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking.
The album has been produced by Brian Higgins on pop production company Xenomania and Mark Ronson. Speaking about working with Ronson, Ditto told NME: “One of our most common bonds was that we both loved big voices, church voices. He loves country music, which is a big deal to me because, you know, in terms of things I love, country music is probably number one, then it’s punk and hip-hop.”
Gossip will be playing a one-off UK show this May, with the band set to headline London’s XOYO venue on May 15. To check the availability of Gossip tickets and get all the latest listings, go to NME.COM/TICKETS now, or call 0871 230 1094.
