Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong will act as a mentor on the new series of the American version of The Voice.
According to Billboard, the punk veteran will provide guidance for contestants being tutored by judge Christina Aguilera on the new series of the US reality series, which starts this September.
Talking about his decision, Armstrong said that he was a fan of the show because “it’s not moulding artists, it’s just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover.”
In addition to his newfound TV commitments, Armstrong is set to have a busy schedule with Green Day over the next several months. The band’s new three-album trilogy ‘¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré!’ will be released in three stages, with the first album ‘¡Uno!’ coming out on September 24. The second LP ‘¡Dos!’ comes out on November 12 and ‘¡Tré!’ on January 14, 2013.
The band recently told NME that one of the 38 songs on the trilogy of albums had been inspired by the late singer Amy Winehouse. Speaking about the track, Armstrong said: “I didn’t know her, I just thought it was a real tragic loss. It’s interesting because if you think about ‘¡Dos!’, it’s a party record, and so at the end of it ‘Amy’ kind of comes across as the consequences of the party.”
