Band have been teasing footage from the studio since January
Green Day have announced plans to release a new single next week.
Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong took to Instagram this morning (August 1) to announce the release of ‘Bang Bang’ on August 11, which also saw him share a picture of the group posing on the pavement.
He wrote: ”Dear friends! green day is putting out a new single called ”BANG BANG” August 11. stay tuned for more details.. photo by Frank Maddocks (sic).”
The band previously shared a video of them recording new music in the studio, earlier this year.
Armstrong shared a clip which sees him showing fans around their studio and drummer Tré Cool playing on steel pan drums. Watch below.
Armstrong also uploaded a studio photo in January.
Late last year the pop-punk band dropped a surprise festive single called ‘Xmas Time of the Year’, released via the group’s Twitter page on Christmas Eve while wishing them “Happy Holidays”.
The new song was the first release from Armstrong and co since the band’s 2012 ‘Uno!’, ‘Dos!’ and ‘Tré!’ album trilogy.
Back in April 2015, long-time producer Rob Cavallo said that the band had been back in the studio and had recorded five tracks.
“Let me tell you, they were just fantastic. He is absolutely at the top of his game,” Cavallo said of Armstrong’s work. “Fans can be sure that when they do return, the music will be amazing.”
Green Day were also inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame last April, 25 years since their first studio album ’39/Smooth’ was released.
