Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong: ‘Our new album is the first time we’ve sung about fucking’

Frontman says new LP is 'voyeuristic' and 'personal'

Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong has said that the band’s new album will be “the first time we ever really sung about fucking”.

Speaking in a video teaser posted on their official YouTube page, which you can watch by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking, the frontman said that the pop punker’s new and as-yet-unnamed effort would be “voyeuristic”.

With the band confirming earlier this month that they had begun work on the LP, Armstrong said:

I think it’s so personal and so voyeuristic. This is the first time we ever really sung about fucking.

Bassist Mike Dirnt, meanwhile, promised that fans would enjoy the new material, claiming that it would “blow their fucking minds”.

The band have previously said that their new ninth studio album will move away from the concepts of their last two records ‘American Idiot’ and ’21st Century Breakdown’ and be more straightforward.

In November last year, Green Day debuted their new track ‘Carpe Diem’ during a live show in San Francisco. Their last release was a live album titled ‘Awesome As Fuck’ in 2011.

Last month (January 23), Green Day’s American Idiot musical added an extra week of performances to its UK tour. The musical, which finished a lengthy run at St James Theater on Broadway earlier this year, will visit eight cities on a UK jaunt that begins in October 2012.

The show is based around songs from Green Day’s last two studio albums ‘American Idiot’ and ’21st Century Breakdown’. A feature film version of the musical, which is being produced by Tom Hanks, is currently in development.
