The Carling Weekend: Reading And Leeds headliners will have new material to play...

GREEN DAY have revealed the title of their first studio album in four years.

The punk trio will release ‘American Idiot’ on September 14, though when the album is due to hit UK stores remains unconfirmed.

‘American Idiot’ follows the success of 2000’s ‘Warning’.

According to Billboard, guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong is also set to donate two songs to the forthcoming film ‘Live Freaky, Die Freaky’ which has been described by filmmaker John Roecker as “a sexy, gory puppet movie”.

The soundtrack will also feature a duet between Kelly Osbourne and No Doubt‘s Davey Havok.

Green Day members Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool will also appear in the film. Originally ex-Marilyn Manson bassist Twiggy Ramirez and drummer Josh Freese were set to feature in the project, but were forced to pull out due to touring commitments with A Perfect Circle.

As previously reported on NME.COM, Green Day will join rock heavyweights such as Foo Fighters and [a][/a] on the forthcoming album ‘Rock Against Bush Vol. 2’, expected for release this August.

This summer Green Day will play:
