Billie Joe Armstrong will be appearing on the 'Unforgiven' single...

GREEN DAY frontman BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG is to appear on the next single by the GO-GO’S, ‘UNFORGIVEN’, which is released in the US on March 20.

He performs backing vocals and plays guitar on the track, the first single to be released from the all-girl five-piece’s first studio album for 17 years, ‘God Bless The Go-Go’s’, which is released on May 15 through Beyond records.

According to [url=]www.sonicnet.com, the band’s guitarist Jane Wiedlin said: “[Green Day] were influenced by us, and we ended up getting re-influenced by them.”

The Go-Go’s, who split in 1985, were classed as punk-pop when they formed in California in the late ’70s, but in the UK, where the group had a handful of hits, including ‘Our Lips Are Sealed’ in 1982, it was singer Belinda Carlisle’s solo career which achieved most success, with the single ‘Heaven Is A Place On Earth’ reaching Number One on both sides of the Atlantic.

Jane Wiedlin had fleeting solo success with the Top 20 hit ‘Rush Hour’.

The group – completed by Kathy Valentine on bass, Charlotte Caffey on guitar and Gina Schock on drums – reformed for one-off gigs and compilation releases, but after a tour last summer, decided to record a new album.
