Green Day, who followed a typically raucous and incendiary set by Iggy Pop (pictured), caused extensive damage to V98’s Main Stage on Saturday after setting fire to their drum kit at the end of their set. Site fire officers were called to the side of the stage when fire engulfed the drum riser and threatened to spread across the stage. Black smoke could be seen belching from the top of the structure.

V98 promoter Bob Angus says over a hundred pounds’ worth of damage was done to electrical cables in the incident which he put down to “high-jinks”. The band were unaware of the chaos they’d caused onstage as they were outfront crowd-surfing at the time.
