Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong could stay in rehab until 2013

Record label boss says the 'future is basically undecided'

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong could be in rehab until after Christmas, his record label boss has confirmed.

The singer was admitted to the medical facility last month after smashing his guitar and going on an expletive-filled rant at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Rob Cavallo of Warner Bros said:

He’s under medical supervision for a while to get him clean. His doctors are still evaluating. All I can say is I don’t know if we’ll see him before or after Christmas. It’s basically undetermined when he’ll be back.

Claudia Suarez Wright, the ex-wife of Green Day drummer Tre Cool, previously revealed how Armstrong had started drinking on the day of the Las Vegas festival.

She said: “When he was in Vegas he was drinking a lot. The night of the show he had been drinking. In Las Vegas there’s a lot of temptation to drink and it’s tough to be around when you’re fighting against it.”

Earlier this week it was confirmed that Green Day will be replaced by Metallica on the bill for the Voodoo Arts & Music festival in New Orleans.

The rest of Green Day’s ‘¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tré!’ album trilogy will be released in two more stages, with the second LP, ‘¡Dos!’ coming out on November 12 and ‘¡Tré!’ on January 14, 2013. Green Day are also due to play a huge UK stadium show next summer, headlining London’s 60,000 capacity Emirates Stadium on June 1, 2013.
