Grimes scrapped work on new album and ‘started again’

The singer's latest track 'Go' divided fans

Grimes has scrapped previous work on her new album and is back in the studio.

Speaking to The New York Times, Grimes – real name Claire Boucher – discussed the negativity that has surrounded latest single ‘Go’. “It upsets a lot of my fans, and I get why it upsets them,” she said. “Everybody was like, ‘Oh, Grimes is pandering to the radio’.”

A collaboration between the 26-year-old and producer Blood Diamonds, Boucher recorded the track after originally writing it for pop star Rihanna. Scroll down to view the song’s recently released music video.

The release has been intended to prelude a new Grimes album. But Boucher revealed work on a follow up to 2012 record ‘Visions’ has been scrapped. “I am in the studio and it’s great,” she wrote on Twitter after the profile was published (September 13).

Boucher also spoke about her recent decision not to perform the ice bucket challenge. The ‘Oblivion’ singer opted not to take on the stunt because of the California drought and the ALS Association’s record of testing on animals. Instead she donated to The Malala Fund, an organisation that helps girls go to school and raise their voices for the right to education.

“All these people with ALS were like, ‘You’re the worst person ever’. I was crying for days,” she said.
