Grimes performs ‘Ave Maria’ during Live Lounge session

She appeared on Annie Mac's Radio 1 show

Grimes appeared on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show today (April 20) to perform a 30-minute session in the Live Lounge.

Performing ‘Art Angels’ tracks ‘Flesh Without Blood’ and ‘REALiTi,’ the 30-minute set also saw her cover the Franz Schubert classic ‘Ave Maria’. She has performed the song in the past, stating it as one her of all-time favourites.

In addition to the performance, the artist also chatted to Mac about her upcoming plans for two new music videos as well as her approach to songwriting and recently collaborating with her brother on the ‘Kill V. Maim’ video.

Boucher has recently been speaking about the “hostile environment” faced by women in music, after being asked about legal proceedings between Kesha and her producer Dr Luke.

Boucher told Rolling Stone “I’ve been in numerous situations where male producers would literally be like, ‘We won’t finish the song unless you come back to my hotel room.'”

“If I was younger or in a more financially desperate situation, maybe I would have done that. I don’t think there are few female producers because women aren’t interested. It’s difficult for women to get in. It’s a pretty hostile environment.”
