Isolation can do funny things to some people; none more so than Grimes, who began to believe her music was a “gift from God”.
The electro-pop singer was referring to the recording of her fourth album ‘Visions, which was released in March through 4AD, in an interview with The Guardian.
She told the newspaper:
Once you hit day nine, you start accessing some really crazy shit. You have no stimulation, so your subconscious starts filling in the blanks. I started to feel like I was channelling spirits
Grimes, real name Claire Boucher, added: “I was convinced my music was a gift from God. It was like I knew exactly what to do next, as if my songs were already written.”
Sleep deprivation seems to have been a good technique by the 24-year-old Canadian to get the most out of herself creatively, as her latest album has received global critical praise – you can watch her performance on last week’s Later With Jools Holland by scrolling down the page and clicking.
Recently, the singer has been channelling her creativity into jewellery design, teaming up with Montreal-based jeweller and sculptor Morgan Black to create ‘Grimes Pussy Rings’. The singer posted an image to the colourful, sculpted vagina designs on her Tumblr last week.
