Grimes gives new music update: “I have a deep well of shit”

Claire Boucher says she's back after taking a month off

Grimes has issued another update on the prospect of new music, saying that she has “so many songs” and a “deep well of shit” to work with.

The musician (real name Claire Boucher) recently hinted that things weren’t going to plan with her next LP, suggesting that there would be no new music “any time soon”.

She later apologised for calling 4AD a “shit label”, saying: “I’m sorry negative shit I said ended up in the press today. I didn’t mean to spread bad vibes.”

Now, in an Instagram comment to a fan, Grimes has revealed that she “just took a month off” and that “a lot of insane shit went down and I’m reorienting my whole life”.

“I think now I’m screwing my head back on,” she added. “Can finish [the album] fast and I have a deep well of shit this time, like sooooo many songs so after my album I’ll be able to consistently release more music.”

This week has seen Grimes team up with Janelle Monáe for the latter’s new single ‘PYNK’.

In an Instagram caption, Grimes discussed the collaboration and said that she feels “blessed” to be in the “presence of greatness”.

Grimes’ new album will follow 2015’s ‘Art Angels’.

In a review of the record at the time, NME said: “By embracing the pop orthodoxy, you might argue that Boucher has sacrificed some of what made her seem so alien when 4AD debut ‘Visions’ emerged from the ether back in 2012, but rest assured: she’s still laughing and not being normal, only this time, it’s all the way to the bank.”
