Grimes wants to “publicity execute” her stage persona

"I’m super bound by the limits I’ve set for myself."

Grimes has revealed how she’s hoping to kill off her own public persona.

The singer opened up in a new interview with Wall Street Journal, after revealing details of her new album ‘Miss_Anthropocene‘.

After explaining how she’s temporarily hoping to go by the name c, Claire Boucher revealed that ‘Grimes’ could be a thing of the past.

“I’m super bound by the limits I’ve set for myself [with Grimes]… It would be easier for me if I wasn’t stuck with the branding I made in 2009, you know?,” she said.

Later in the interview, she added: “I think I’ll kill Grimes soon. It will be a public execution followed by — by something else. I shouldn’t say yet.”

Grimes new music

The same interview saw the singer opening up on the fallout of her comments on ‘unionising’ Tesla, the company of her former partner Elon Musk – and how she was “unprepared” for it.

“I’ve just been wallowing in indie music for, like, a decade,” said Grimes. “I just thought I could keep going along in my funny little way, and then you casually respond to someone in a tweet and it’s on Fox News, and you’re like, ‘Ugh’, you know? That was a very disturbing moment.”

After dropping the huge comeback single ‘We Appreciate Power‘ last year, Grimes this week shared her new demo ‘Pretty Dark’ as well as confirming details of new album ‘Miss_Anthropocene‘.

“It’s a concept album about the anthropomorphic Goddess of climate Change: A psychedelic, space-dwelling demon/ beauty-Queen who relishes the end of the world. She’s composed of Ivory and Oil,” wrote Boucher.

She added: “Each song will be a different embodiment of human extinction as depicted through a Pop star Demonology. The first song ‘we appreciate power’, introduced the pro-AI-propaganda girl group who embody our potential enslavement/destruction at the hands of Artificial General intelligence.”
