Guns N’ Roses are set to perform live for the first time in over seven years at the ROCK IN RIO festival in January 2001.
Event organiser Roberto Medina told Brazilian television yesterday (October 25) that frontman and only surviving original member Axl Rose had agreed to play while [url=]www.mtv.com quotes a source on the event’s production team saying the appearance was set in stone.
The most remarkable addition so far to an already stellar line-up, Guns N’ Roses are slated to headline the third day of Rock On Rio on January 14.
Set to join Axl Rose in the new-look band are bassist Tommy Stinson, guitarist Paul Tobias, keyboardist Dizzy Reed and guitarist Buckethead, as well as the band’s latest addition, ex-Primus drummer Brain, who has replaced Josh Freese.
The event, which has already confirmed appearances from many of music’s ruling elite including REM, Beck, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, *N SYNC and Britney Spears, runs for seven days in two blocks between January 12 to 21.
Rose last briefly stuck his head over the live parapet in June this year. He made a fleeting appearance alongside former bandmate Gilby Clarke at one of Clarke’s show’s in a Los Angeles club.
Guns N’ Roses‘ ‘Chinese Democracy’ album project still shows no signs of completion after five years. Roy Thomas Baker is reported to be the latest producer to have worked on the record.
