A US radio DJ has recalled a story of Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose being late for one of the band’s shows because he was too busy watching a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.
The unnamed DJ from Tampa claims to have been the assistant to the owner of the Suncoast Dome venue in St Petersburg, Florida, where the band played a show on December 28, 1991.
The individual is reported to have recently told Alternative Nation: “Axl’s management said he was watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret Of The Ooze, and that Axl’s attention was 100 per cent on the movie and couldn’t be bothered.”
In 2013, Rose admitted to being unpunctual for many past performances but stated that the reason for each delay “in one way or another [was] show-related or having to do with those involved with the show in some fashion”.
Guns N’ Roses have experienced multiple line-ups changes recently, with two members parting ways with the group in less than a week last month.
Lead guitarist Bumblefoot recently followed DJ Ashba out of Axl Rose’s band, while fellow guitarist Richard Fortus has cast doubt on the future of the group, saying he hasn’t heard news on the band for some time.
Earlier this year, Fortus also talked about Guns N’ Roses having enough material to make up two or three new albums, while back in April the now departed Ashba said the band are on a short-term hiatus.
