Gwar members planning to build monument for late frontman Dave Brockie

Oderus Urungus monument will be built in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia

Gwar have announced plans to build a statue in tribute to late frontman Dave Brockie, AKA Oderus Urungus, who died last month (March).

The remaining members of the metal band have launched the Dave Brockie Foundation partly in order to raise funds for the monument and also to promote music and performance in the arts. See above to watch the video message now.

In the clip the band say, “Just face it – Oderus would order you to be present and pay tribute to Dave Murray Brockie, his own personal slave! Oderus did always consider you his children, but I know for a fact that Dave thought of our fans as his family.”

Gwar plan to build the monument in Richmond, Virginia, where Brockie lived. “[We want] to provide the world with a place to pay respects to the memory of a very cherished man,” they said. Fans can donate toward the statue fund via Gwar’s official website.

Brockie’s body was found at home by his roommates on March 23, prompting an outpouring of tributes from fellow musicians. Known for their outrageous costumes and prosthetics, thrash metal band Gwar released their 13th album in 2013 and mark their 30th anniversary this year.
