Gwen Stefani unveils studio version of new single ‘Used To Love You’

Single is No Doubt singer's first in a year and tackles her split from Gavin Rossdale

Gwen Stefani has released her new single ‘Used To Love You’ – a solo ballad tackling her recent split from British rocker Gavin Rossdale.

The No Doubt singer unveiled the track on Saturday night during a performance at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York. Now she has released the studio version of the track, her first single since 2014’s ‘Baby Don’t Lie’.

‘Used To Love You’ features the lyric: “Never thought this would happen/ I’ve let it sink in/ You’re gone.” Apparently a reference to the break-up of her relationship with Rossdale.

Stefani and Rossdale decided to end 13 years of marriage and filed for divorce earlier this year. They cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason behind the separation.

They wed in 2002 after meeting at a 1995 concert where Stefani’s band opened for the Rossdale-fronted Bush and are currently seeking joint custody of their three children (Zuma, Kingston and Apollo).

The release of ‘Used To Love You’ seems to bookend a difficult period in Stefani’s life which includes her taking out of a three-year restraining order against an allegedly obsessed fan earlier this year.

The man, Richard Portnoy, who turned up at her acupuncturist to accost the ‘Just a Girl’ singer, is accused of threatening to kill himself because he found pictures of the singer tripping over upsetting.

Meanwhile, Eminem came out in support of Stefani after the duo collaborated on new song, ‘Kings Never Die’, which appears on the soundtrack to boxing film Southpaw.
