Halsey has explained why she didn’t attend the MTV VMAs on Monday night, after her absence sparked speculation from fans.
The ‘Hopeless Fountain Kingdom‘ singer responded on Twitter, explaining how she’d grown frustrated after failing to receive a single nomination despite directing all of her recent music videos.
bc I directed all my own music videos this album just to have @MTV “#wcw” me to death and not nominate me for anything so it didn’t feel right to go. I’m happy you guys liked the videos. That’s all that matters to me. ? https://t.co/lprzIrTUHg

But she wasn’t alone in her criticism – with former Fifth Harmony star Lauren Jauregui standing firmly in Halsey’s corner.
@halsey deserved at the very least a nomination last night.
Consistently directed her own videos this entire era. Not to mention her attention to detail stringing them into a story. I feel like that deserves recognition, especially in a climate where most artists don’t even write— Lauren Jauregui (@LaurenJauregui) August 21, 2018

Jauregui added: “It’s the video music awards man…lol directing is just a plus to the quality of videos she produced for her MULTIPLE hits off of.”

MTV are yet to respond to Halsey’s latest criticism.
Although Halsey may have missed out, Camila Cabello and Beyonce & Jay-Z triumphed at Monday’s ceremony.
Together as The Carters, Jay Z and Beyonce took home two awards for ‘APESHIT’, while Childish Gambino’s acclaimed ‘This Is America’ walked away with three and Camila Cabello’s ‘Havana’ was named video of the year. Check out the full winners’ list here.
