Happy Mondays’ Bez announces plan to run in 2015 general election

The dancer and all-round hedonist will run for MP in hometown of Salford

Happy Mondays‘ Bez has revealed he plans to run for MP in Salford in the 2015 general election, promising voters a “new world order”.

Bez will kick-off his political career by joining anti-fracking protesters at Barton Moss this weekend (March 16) before take part in a protest the following day. The backing dancer with the Manchester group says that Britain needs a “revolution” and is basing his manifesto on redistribution of wealth and an end to war as well as investing money in cancer and dementia research.

Speaking to Manchester Evening News, Bez said: “I’ve been saying we need a revolution and there’s no good shouting about it when you’re not actually doing anything. If you want to do something about things you’ve got to get into the corridors of power and take them on. If you’re voting for me, you’re voting as a protest about what’s happening in the world at the moment.”

“I’m going to create a new world order and get rid of them and start again with a new, fairer system without evil being the main policy,” continued the keen beekeeper. “One of my policies would be a permacultural society where we’ll end illness and get everybody back to an alkaline state.”

Bez, who was born in Salford, is most likely to stand as an independent candidate in the 2015 election and will look to replace the constituency’s current Labour MP, Hazel Blears, who is stepping down ahead of the election.
