Shaun Ryder: ”Twilight’ is Romeo And Juliet with fangs’

The Happy Mondays frontman also says he'll be watching 'Downton Abbey' on Christmas Day

Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder has said that the Twilight franchise of films are “Romeo And Juliet with fangs”.

He told Shortlist that his wife and daughters made him watch all four films in a row, saying:

They even made me watch the Twilight saga the other day – all four of them on the bounce. But they’re OK – they’re just Romeo And Juliet with fangs.

He added that he’ll be watching Downton Abbey on Christmas Day, saying: “The missus loves it. I don’t mind it, either. It’s a glamorous soap opera.”

The Happy Mondays‘ new album is “sounding brilliant”, according to the band’s vocalist Rowetta.

Speaking to NME this autumn, she said: “Shaun’s lyrics are great and everybody’s playing better than before because we’ve all got clearer heads. We’re going to get different producers on board I believe, so it will all change. We used to have the producer first then start writing.”

The singer also revealed some of the possible names for the album, stating: “The working titles include ‘Designer Vagina’, ‘Lollipop Man’, ‘Mumbo Jumbo’.”

The band play tonight (December 20) at London’s Roundhouse venue. To check the availability of Happy Mondays tickets and get all the latest listings, go to NME.COM/TICKETS now, or call 0871 230 1094.
