Arctic Monkeys have released the music video for ‘Four Out Of Five’, and it’s an eerie offering that effortlessly summons the spirit of Stanley Kubrick.
In the video for the The ‘Tranquility Base Hotel And Casino’ track, frontman Alex Turner appears to lose his grip with reality as he walks through a series of locations.
Bright red flashes are seen as he roams the corridors of a stately home, evoking the twisted horror of Kubrick’s cult thriller The Shining.
At another point, Turner is seen walking through a futuristic yet somewhat dated underground station, inviting comparisons with the dystopian vibes of A Clockwork Orange.
Although the clip is largely focused on Turner, he later joins forces with bandmates Nick O’Malley, Jamie Cook and Matt Helders as the track reaches its finale.
The song is the first official release from the album, and comes after it was released to polarising reviews last Friday.
NME’s official four-star verdict of the record described it as their “boldest step yet”.
“The album’s title is a fitting one: this record feels a lot like gazing into the night sky. At first it’s completely overwhelming – you’ll be trying to connect the scattered dots on this initially impenetrable listen, and maybe even despairing when it doesn’t all come together. But when the constellations show through, you’ll realise that it’s a product of searingly intelligent design”, our official verdict stated.
