Hey Violet confirm departure of bassist after sexual assault allegations

Iain Shipp has left the group

US pop punk group Hey Violet have confirmed the departure of bassist Iain Shipp after he was accused of sexual assault by two women.

Shipp, who joined the band in 2016, has denied allegations from two ex-girlfriends who allege that he admitted to raping a woman in the past.

Denying the allegations, Shipp wrote on Twitter: “I am aware of the disturbing allegations being issued against me and the matter is being investigated. They are deeply upsetting and untrue.”

Responding for the first time on social media, the band described Shipp’s departure as an “incredibly difficult time” and said they hoped the allegations were untrue.

“We have reached out to both parties affected both personally and through our attorney in hopes of gaining a better understanding of the situation,” the band wrote.

“We are continuing to investigate the matter, but with the current details provided, there is not enough information to prove or disprove the allegations presented.”

The band added: “We sincerely hope the allegations are untrue, but at this moment we feel it is best to continue on without Iain in the band. You are all like family to us and we hope you know that we’ve been taking this very seriously.”
