Hole‘s SAMANTHA MALONEY has been officially confirmed as the MVTLEY CRE drummer for initial dates on their forthcoming US tour.
As previously reported on nme.com, Maloney was originally brought in to rehearse with Mvtley Cruk last week, while regular drummer Randy Castillo recovered from emergency stomach surgery.
It was planned that Castillo would have recovered in time to play the first date of the ‘Maximum Rock’ tour, which also features fellow rockers Megadeth and Anthrax, on June 24 in Sacramento, California. However, his recuperation is taking longer than expected, and now Maloney will start the tour with the band.
Speaking about the changes, Cruk bassist Nikki Sixx described Maloney‘s drumming as “dynamic”, adding: “With the tour starting in one week we didn’t want to cancel shows on fans. We had previously met Samantha and knew she was dynamic and could add a real edge to the live show. Our first practice together last week was great – she already knew most of the songs. We wish Randy a speedy recovery.”
Samantha Maloney added: “Playing with Mvtley Cr|e has been a lifelong dream for me – it’s like winning the lotto. Rehearsing with the band has been amazing and I can’t wait to play in front of the Mvtley Cruk fans!”
Hole plan to return to the studio in October to work on the follow-up to ‘Celebrity Skin’. Vocalist Courtney Love has revealed that she has already written six new songs for the album, which isn’t expected before 2001.
