Hole drummer SAMANTHA MALONEY has joined MVTLEY CRE, and may play live with the band on their US tour later in the month.
Maloney has been brought in to rehearse with Mvtley Cr|e while regular drummer Randy Castillo recovers from emergency stomach surgery. A posting on Hole‘s website, [url=]www.holemusic.com, says Maloney is playing with her “career idols”, and had her first rehearsal with the band yesterday (June 13).
Castillo underwent surgery last weekend (June 10-11) in LA for an undisclosed ailment. If he does not recover in time, Maloney is expected to play live for the band on their forthcoming ‘Maximum Rock’ tour , which features fellow rockers Megadeth and Anthrax, and commences on June 24 in Sacramento, California.
In other Hole news, Courtney Love revealed she has completed six new Hole songs. Speaking in an interview on the band’s official website to promote the film ‘Julie Johnson’, in which Love plays an American housewife who finds herself in love with her best friend, she said: “I just started writing songs in New York and I’ve completed about six …I have to work out every day for four hours, and I want to squeeze in time with Sam (Maloney) and Eric (Erlandson) this week for more songs.”
A spokesperson for the band told nme.com that Hole are still to find a permanent replacement for departed bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur, who left Hole to join Smashing Pumpkins last year.
