Ice Cube lined up to play Scrooge in ‘A Christmas Carol’ remake

'Humbug' casts Ice Cube as a real estate mogul, but isn't yet in production

Ice Cube‘s latest career move in the cinematic world looks set to be as a real estate agent (‘Scrooge’) in a modern retelling of Charles Dickens’ festive classic A Christmas Carol.

The movie, which will be entitled Humbug, has been snapped up by Universal following a four-studio battle for the rights, and could see Ice Cube reunite with director Tim Story. The two previously worked together on cop flick Ride Along, released last year, and on its sequel Ride Along 2, due out early in 2016.

The Guardian has suggested Ice Cube might earn as much as $10million for the role.

Versions of A Christmas Carol are a film industry mainstay, with IMDb currently listing 16 different versions of the classic. This version is not yet in production, so even given Universal’s buy, there’s no guarantee it’ll ever see the big screen.

Ice Cube’s old group NWA recently got back together (minus Dr Dre) to play at the BET Experience in LA’s Staples Center, following the success of the Straight Outta Compton biopic. Strong rumours have already surfaced regarding a sequel, with suggestions it would be based around Death Row Records and entitled Welcome To Death Row. Meanwhile, Ice Cube has also backed Kanye West’s presidential bid.
