Idlewild, Mogwai and Belle & Sebastian are among the artists nominated for a new Scottish music award.
The inaugural Nordoff-Robbins Hard Rock New Talent Award which was launched in Edinburgh this morning (June 7), will be voted for by music fans and the winner announced at the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy In Scotland annual awards ceremony in September.
Edwyn Collins spoke at this morning’s launch and announced the nominations.
Voting forms will be distributed in Scottish newspaper the Sunday Mail and are also available from the restaurant. Closing date for voting is August 1.
The full list of nominees is – annie christian, Arab Strap, Belle And Sebastian, The Delgados, Geneva, Idlewild, Justin and Mogwai.
A spokesperson admitted that not all the bands were strictly “new”, but explained: “Traditionally, Nordoff-Robbins have presented awards for achievement to artists such as Sharleen Spiteri and Simple Minds. This is an attempt to widen the scope and make it more relevant.”
