She calls it a 'buzz track' to precede official single 'Team'
Australian rapper Iggy Azalea has released a new single entitled ‘Azillion’.
Posting the track to her Soundcloud last night (January 8), Azalea captioned it “*BUZZ TRACK… 4 MY RATZ*”.
Its description as a ‘buzz track‘ could rule it out of the tracklisting for her forthcoming album ‘Digital Distortion’ – on January 3 she tweeted, “I’m gonna play it casual with the buzz tracks and just let you know a few hours before. real singles I’ll give dates in advance”.
Another ‘buzz track’, entitled ‘Middle Man’, was released in October. An official lead single for ‘Digital Distortion’, ‘Team’, is expected to follow ‘Azillion’ soon, since Azalea recently tweeted, “Got something coming for you guys January 14”
Last year Azalea collaborated with Britney Spears on ‘Pretty Girls’, a single which reached Number 16 in the UK and Number 29 in the US. Discussing the perceived flop in a Twitter Q&A, she said, “its difficult to send a song up the charts without additional promo and tv performances etc. unfortunately im just featured…” She later added: “i would have enjoyed performing it alot, i think it got off to a powerful start. but you need content to compete in 2015.”
Later in 2015 she dismissed Rita Ora’s suggestion that they form an all-girl supergroup to cover ‘Lady Marmalade’.
Ora told The Sun that she was admirer of the 2001 cover rendition of the song, which was recorded Christina Aguilera, Pink, Lil Kim and Mýa. She stated that she would love to re-record the track with Azalea, Miley Cyrus and Charli XCX.
Azalea tweeted to distance herself from the comments after the public reacted negatively to the idea, writing, “Please leave me out of the whole Lady Marmalade conversation. I have nothing to do with ritas ideas & agree it should be left alone. Thanks”.
