Iggy Azalea: ‘The media wants women in music to mud wrestle each other’

Rapper denies reports of 'beef' with Britney Spears following perceived failure of 'Pretty Girls' collaboration

Iggy Azalea has hit back at the media for exaggerating a series of tweets between herself and recent collaborator Britney Spears.

The Australian-born rapper recently seemed to blame a lack of promotion from Spears’ camp for the perceived failure of their collaborative single ‘Pretty Girls’, which only reached Number 16 in UK charts and Number 26 in the US.

In response to media claims that this exchange has sparked a rivalry between the two artists, Azalea fired a series of tweets criticising this, commenting: “No one is throwing ‘shade’ or ‘shots’ on either side of the table. The girl is my friend and I support her 100%.”

Azalea added: “I feel like the media wants women in music to get out and mud wrestle each other. As a woman I take great offence.”

She continued: “Women in the media should be able to have a grown up and subjective opinion without it being anything more than that. its disappointing.”

“I’m over it. Women in music are not the same as a teen drama. Stop making us all out to be, we are business women & artists. Not mean girls.”

Azalea stated during a recent Twitter Q&A that the lack of success of ‘Pretty Girls’ was due to a lack of ‘content’, She added: “It’s difficult to send a song up the charts without additional promo and tv performances etc. unfortunately im just featured…”

Britney Spears responded with: “can’t wait to get back to Vegas. So thankful I have shows for the rest of the year to look forward to… #YouWantAPieceOfMe”.
