Fans got to hear ‘Pretty Girls’ for the first time on Saturday (May 2). However, the song was not meant to make its way to radio and online until today (May 4). Azalea addressed this issue with fans on Twitter while also taking the opportunity to praise her new musical partner Spears.
‘Prett Girls’ was written by Little Mix and has been produced by The Invisible Men, who helmed the Azalea hit ‘Fancy’.
Azalea recently spoke about working with Spears, discussing a yet-unreleased music video they shot together. The Aussie singer/rapper said, “What Britney made clear to me is that she really wanted to do a video where she got to dress up and play a character. That was really important to her and she liked a lot of the things I’ve done that were inspired by movies and stuff.”
Iggy Azalea continued to explain that she had taken inspiration from 80s model and actress Geena Davis. “She’s just like the ultimate ’80s pin-up hot, cool type of girl, so I told Britney to check her out, and she was like, ‘Yes, I love Geena Davis!’ So we based our characters on a lot of stuff like that, like Geena Davis and characters she played in a lot of her movies at that time period. But there’s definitely a narrative. I don’t want to give it away, but it’s quirky and funny.”
In March, Azalea announced that she was postponing her tour in order to further develop her live show. “To accommodate for creative team availability and tour productions, it was determined that the tour will not be ready this spring,” read a statement on behalf of the star. “It’s important to Iggy that she delivers the show she envisaged to share with her fans and that requires more time in development.”
Britney Spears recently appeared on Giorgio Moroder’s new album, covering Suzanne Vega’s ‘Tom’s Diner’. The album itself will be released on June 17 and features various other vocalists including Charli XCX, Kylie Minogue, Kelis and Sia.
