Interpol have released a new video for their track ‘The Rover’. It’s directed by Narcos showrunner Gerardo Naranjo and stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who previously appeared in Netflix’s Punisher.
The song is taken from the band’s new album ‘Marauder’, which is released August 24th. They previously shared the audio of ‘The Rover’ back in June.
The new video was filmed in Mexico-City, where the band unveiled the first details of the new album. Moss-Bachrach plays a “mysterious figure” that follows the band.
“I like to describe the video for “The Rover” as a prequel,” Paul Banks said of the new visual. “It’s the origin story of the character described in the song, the birth of a cult leader. When we meet him he is partly unhinged. He’s a man on the verge, an artist subjected to great pressures, and beset with existential frustrations. A distracted hipster who enjoys psychedelics, let’s say.
“The events that take place in Mexico City, be it a bump on the head, a visit to a shaman, or the influence of his rescuers (the street gang known as “Los Locos”) trigger the birth – the eruption – of this new figure, “the rover.” His rescuers become his first followers.
“In the end of the video he exacts his “revenge” on Interpol with a mischievous act of disruption during the press conference,” he added. “He grabs me by the head – to save me? Forgive me? Or simply as a gesture of his new independence – the butterfly becoming.” You can watch it below.
Interpol recently supported The Cure at British Summer Time festival at London’s Hyde Park. They performed a string of hits from a number of their albums while also treating fans to a rendition of ‘The Rover’.
They’ll be playing three dates in England later on this year. You can grab tickets here.
