Kristen Stewart and Finn Wittrock star in Interpol’s edgy new video for ‘If You Really Love Nothing’

Set in nocturnal LA, the video features Kristen Stewart in a doomed romance with Finn Wittrock

Interpol have released an edgy new video for new single ‘If You Really Love Nothing’ – taken from their new album ‘Marauder’.

The NYC trio kicked off their world tour in Mexico recently, playing the song live for the first time.

Twilight star Kristen Stewart stars alongside American Horror Story and La La Land actor Finn Wittrock as the two party in a a nocturnal LA club. Playing a reckless lover, Stewart ultimately sabotages her relationship with Wittrock’s character, playing up to the song’s dark, intense themes of nihilistic allure and crushing despair. The song is the opening track on the new album.

Directed by Hala Matar and shot in LA, frontman Paul Banks said Stewart was “the perfect actress for this part.”

He added: “I don’t think there’s anyone that could have better played the role. She nails it, and I love the performance from Finn Wittrock. Another wonderful casting choice – he plays the role of Kristen’s beleaguered companion beautifully.”

Speaking about director Matar, Banks said: “Hala is a young director I had the pleasure of meeting a few years ago, and I’ve been a big fan of her short film work since. Her luscious use of colours and lighting, her insightful dialogue and playful direction, for me, are her hallmarks.

“There’s always humour, drama and atmosphere to spare in her work. I see all of these qualities in her video of ‘If You Really Loved Nothing’. And speaking on behalf of Interpol, we are so proud to have had the opportunity of this collaboration.”

Speaking to NME about their latest album, Banks said: “I think that there’s something very direct to this record that maybe sets it apart from some of the other ones. There’s a quality of minimalism that we tried to preserve.

“We try to keep it more faithful to what we were trying to achieve in the room without letting Pro-Tools make you want to ‘perfect’ anything. I would just play the songs top to bottom, because Fridmann [Dave, producer] got really excited by that possibility. It’s a very minimal, stripped-down rock recording – and I don’t think a lot of records get made that way these days.”

Interpol release ‘Marauder’ on August 24 via Matador. As well as two intimate album launch shows in London this month, the band’s winter UK and European tour dates are below. Visit here for tickets and more information.
