Is the curse of Mick Jagger to blame for England’s World Cup exit?

Stay at home, Mick!

England fans have jokingly suggested that Mick Jagger might be to blame for England’s World Cup exit last night.

The Rolling Stones icon was in attendance as England lost 2-1 to Croatia in the semi-final, marking the latest of several occasions where he’s been present to back the losing side at international tournaments.

In 2014, Sir Mick was present as Brazil endured a 7-1 hammering to Germany. He was in attendance with his son Lucas, who has a Brazilian mother.

His presence at the game prompted a huge backlash, with Lucas’ mother Luciana Giminez later urging fans to back off.

“He is suffering cyber bullying… and I would like to ask you guys who do this kind of bullying to think before you do it”, she said at the time.

Sir Mick was also in attendance at the 2010 World Cup when England endured a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Germany.

And as the final whistle blew last night, the conspiracy theorists came out once more.

“I thought you should know Brazilians have this theory that Mick Jagger is a jinx and every time he’s at the stadium supporting a team they end up losing. We may want to consider a ban in the future”, one fan wrote on Twitter.

Another said: “please next time cheer for the other teams, you truly are a jinx, my Brazilians friends were right.”

Despite England’s exit, fans are remaining positive – having reached the first semi-final in almost 30 years.

Wolf Alice and Liam Gallagher were among the stars paying tribute, with Gallagher describing the team as “biblical”.
