Stroke killed Isaac Hayes

Soul singer's physician determines cause of death

Isaac Hayes‘ cause of death was most likely a stroke, the Memphis sheriff’s department said today (August 12).

The legendary soul singer died Sunday (August 10) after he was found unconscious near a treadmill in his home in Memphis, as previously reported.

An autopsy has not yet been performed, but Hayes‘ physician, Dr. David Kraus, lists the cause of death as a stroke, sheriff’s spokesman Steve Shular told the Associated Press. Kraus said that he had been treating Hayes for high blood pressure.
