“It’s part of history”: Skrillex doesn’t think Jay-Z should pull R. Kelly collaborations

"It's part of the archives"

Skrillex has said that Jay-Z doesn’t need to erase past collaborations with R. Kelly in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations against Kelly.

The EDM and dubstep producer spoke to TMZ on camera yesterday (January 18), saying that whatever Jay-Z decides is up to him.

“You know, I don’t think he needs to do so. It’s hard. It’s like, look: There’s a word. It’s called ‘occhiolism.’ It’s the awareness of the smallness of your own perspective,” he said.

“If JAY-Z wants to keep [his] music because it’s music he made a long time ago, it’s part of the archives, it’s part of history. That doesn’t mean he’s a bad person. That doesn’t mean he supports bad people.”

Jay-Z and Kelly together released ‘Best of Both Worlds’ in 2002 and ‘Unfinished Business’ in 2004.

Kelly issued fresh denial of the claims against him through his lawyer, Steve Greenberg, on January 11. The lawyer told the Associated Press: “The allegations aren’t true because he never knowingly had sex with an underage woman, he never forced anyone to do anything, he never held anyone captive, he never abused anyone.”

Some of the allegations have been thrust into the spotlight in recent weeks following the broadcast of Lifetime’s Surviving R. Kelly documentary, which features testimonies from a slew of women accusing the artist star of sexual assault.

Skrillex, whose real name is Sonny John Moore, also told TMZ in the video interview that people can choose to ignore Kelly’s music if they are uncomfortable associating themselves with him.

Later, when he was asked what he thought about Kelly, Sony, and RCA records parting ways (as reported by US media) he answered: “I think everyone in their own sort of private world should make their own choices, but I support that.”
