Southampton Joiners wins NME’s Britain’s Best Small Venue title in association with JD Roots

To celebrate Frank Turner will play an intimate gig at the venue on June 24


Southampton Joiners has been announced as Britain’s Best Small Venue by NME in association with Jack Daniels’ JD Roots.

Following last month’s announcement of the final shortlist, more than 76,000 votes were cast by NME and NME.com readers.

To celebrate, Frank Turner will headline Southampton Joiners for a special one-off show. He will play the 200-capacity venue on June 24. Details on how to secure exclusive tickets for the show available are on www.nme.com/win now.

Speaking to NME, Frank Turner said: “For somebody like me, who came up through those places, to give a little something back is really important.”

“We’re stoked to have won,” added Ricky Bates, head of booking and promotion at Southampton Joiners. “I go to venues all over the country and I’ve not been to another venue were everybody is so versed in music.”

Reflecting on 2013’s campaign, NME Editor Mike Williams said: “It’s never been more important to get behind the small venues up and down the UK who do such an amazing job of nurturing and supporting new music and local scenes.”

The ten regional winners in NME’s search for Britain’s Best Small Venue in association with Jack Daniels’ JD Roots were:

4. Le Pub, Newport
5. Trades Club, Hebdan Bridge
6. Concorde 2, Brighton
7. Band On The Wall, Manchester
8. Arts Centre, Norwich
9. Limelight, Belfast
10. 12 Bar, London

Southampton Joiners takes over the title from 2012’s winner, Tunbridge Wells Forum.
