Country great covers two classics for White’s label Third Man Records.
Jack White has produced a new single by country singer Dwight Yoakam for White’s label Third Man Records.
Yoakam has covered The Monkees’ 1966 song ‘Tomorrow’s Gonna Be Another Day’ and The Beach Boys’ ‘High On The Mountain Of Love’ for the single, which will be released on 7” and digital on June 10.
White has regularly produced singles for other artists for Third Man Records under its Blue Series banner. Other Blue Series singles have included Courtney Barnett, Beck, Michael Kiwanuka and Tom Jones.
Known for his downbeat lyrics, recent Yoakam albums including 2015’s ‘Second Hand Heart’ have been more optimistic. Yoakam told Rolling Stone: “I’m not a journal keeper and never have been. I have random thoughts and interactions in my personal life that become catalyst for song ideas, but then that’s where the journalising stops. It is, basically, a thematic catalyst. What’s really important is that they live beyond me.”
On completion of the touring for 2014’s album ‘Lazaretto’, White announced in 2015 that he was taking a break from playing live “for a long period of time”. Since then, he has guested with Beyonce on ‘Don’t Hurt Yourself’ on her album ‘Lemonade’ and contributed the song ‘Apple Blossom’ to the soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino’s film ‘The Hateful Eight’.
