Jack White donates $30,000 to restore iconic house from 1980s coming-of-age film ‘The Outsiders’

The building has been bought by House of Pain founder Danny O'Connor

Jack White has donated $30,000 to help preserve the iconic house featured in classic 1983 Francis Ford Coppola film ‘The Outsiders’.

The house in Tulsa, Oklahoma has been the focus of a fundraising appeal to transform it into The Outsiders House Museum. The Press Herald revealed that it was White’s gift that helped meet the $75,000 fundraising goal.

In a brilliant twist, the building was bought in 2015 by Danny O’Connor for $15,000, the founding member of House of Pain – the group behind 90s classic ‘Jump Around’.

Francis Ford Coppola’s classic coming-of-age film is based on teenage author S.E. Hinton’s 1967 novel centred around a group of teenagers called the Greasers. The film made superstars out of the ‘brat pack’ cast, that included Matt Dillon, Rob Lowe, Ralph Macchio, Patrick Swayze, Diane Lane, and Tom Cruise.

This is not the first generous donation from Jack White. The Detroit musician gifted $142,000 to save Detroit’s Masonic Temple in 2013. White’s mother formerly worked as an usher at the venue – the world’s largest Masonic Temple.

Earlier this month, White released a trailer for his new documentary Kneeling At The Anthem DC, which features previously-unseen live footage and clips of him exploring Washington DC’s sights.
