Singer wants to ban Republican candidate from using his music
Jackson Browne has filed suit against US Republican presidential candidate John McCain for allegedly using his 1977 hit song ‘Running On Empty’ in an advertising campaign without his permission.
Browne is seeking at least $75,000 in damages from the Republican presidential candidate as well as the Republican National Committee and the Ohio Republican Party.
The suit, filed in US District Court in Los Angeles, also seeks a permanent injunction against further use of Browne‘s music by the McCain party, reports the Associated Press.
The ad in question mocks an energy-conserving idea proposed by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
Browne‘s lawyer said his client is “a well-known, lifelong liberal activist and supporter of Democratic candidates, and use of his song and his voice in a commercial bashing Barack Obama is anathema to Jackson.”
