Singer-songwriter turns jewel thief for surreal music video
The video for Jake Bugg‘s new single ‘Slumville Sunrise’ has premiered online today (October 21).
The video was shot by director Shane Meadows, who is known for films such as This Is England as well as working with Arctic Monkeys and The Stone Roses. In the video, which you can see above, Bugg steals an engagement ring worth £20,000 from a jeweller’s before going on the run from police.
Speaking to NME about his work on the film, Shane Meadows said: “The video is basically a chase. A character, played by Jake, steals a ring from a jeweller’s and a pursuit begins, the chasing party increases in size and becomes more and more bizarre as the chase and song go on.” Discussing the blue and brown tracksuit Bugg wears in the video, he adds: “We wanted to pick the most awful tracksuit we could find – something he just wouldn’t want to wear.”
Bugg is set to release his second album, ‘Shangri La’, on November 18. The follow-up to last year’s self-titled debut is named after Rick Rubin’s Malibu studio, where the 19-year-old singer-songwriter recorded the album. Rubin produced the album, and it features Jason Lader on bass, Matt Sweeney on guitar, and Pete Thomas [The Attractions] on drums.
